Selecting Warehouse Management Software – Part I

So you're the proud owner of a winery, or are seriously thinking about buying one. Are you curious, you can help me manage software? The answer is definitely yes. Yes, if the cellar is really only a couple of wine racks, not necessarily in the basement. And yes, yes, when you own an operation of several thousand bottles designed to drive your friends and neighbors wild with envy as well as for classify and protect your collection. Yes, the warehouse software can help manage and protect your collection. But you should spend some time and serious effort to determine what software the winery best suits your needs, whatever time and effort in their selection of wines.

Before proposing our ideas about what software must search the cellars, some general observations are in order. We will not give names. We have no intention of giving publicity to any software store. As always, make sure you can return the software within a reasonable time, often 30 days for a full refund or a full refund minus a small handling charge. Recently interested in some programs that had nothing to do with storage. The manufacturer did not offer a money back guarantee, but that allow us to download free trial version. This version only lasted three days and many of the potentially interesting features were disabled. I never buy media logical and recommend that you either. Remember, the features promised are completely meaningless until you check out. Sellers do not always tell you the deficiencies in its software. Have you ever heard of software that was not recognized as easy to use?

Data entry is a fundamental aspect of the fitness software for you. If you are going to be typing away, you may lose interest quickly. Many programs require you to enter basic information such as the variety of grapes, make, country, region, and harvesting. Great, how do handle different grape varieties, often in red wines of Bordeaux? Many wines have two "brands" partners with them. If you're enough of a wine connoisseur with a cellar, you may be interested in these details. If you are interested enough to hit all what is additional information from you. A little wine, like most Champagne, it has a vintage. Does the system force you to make a value? It's so easy not to enter in the optional data, but then the system value decreases exponentially. For example, suppose your database does not include the vintage of Château Petrus. Software not be able to provide a better time to take a date.

There are other issues related to data entry. How to manage multiple purchases system? In other words, I like such and such a Barolo that ended up buying a case, what luck. Does the program lets you add only the changed data, such as price, or if have to start from scratch? Some systems allow you to enter the bar code data. Although this option is useful, may require the data are not in the barcode. So you can expect to spend much time and effort hit in the data. You may know the phrase, Garbage in garbage out. A good set of flags scandalous values input, but can not catch all mistakes.

If you are rich enough to have an excellent wine cellar, you may consider paying someone to do serious data entry for you. Just make sure your nickname does not Butterfingers.
