Wine education please … White or red? … Bitter / Sweet? … Fish / Meat? Cost?

I really never drank wine in my life. I want to strengthen my eloquence and change of specialties alcoholic wine at dinner outings. I usually like alcohol fruity, so my guess is it will taste a delicious fruity wine (not bitter). What wine goes with seafood? What wine goes with steak? Please give me wine commonly known in restaurants such as steakhouses, Red Lobster, Olive Garden, etc. Nothing fancy and expensive. However, not cheap. I do not want to seem ignorant sort my first glass of wine ever. What are the common prices for middle-class person would pay for every glass of wine? I usually see on the menu wines such as Chardonnay, Merlot, but … different types. Help please give me some advice novice wine drinkers.

I like fruity wines too! Whatever you do DO NOT drink merlot. It is SUPER dry and bitter. My favorite red wines and Cabernet Sauvignon Zinfadel. They are usually a little sweeter. The wine has a strong flavor really start with what you may want to start to drink white wines. Chardonnay is really bitter too. You must start with Pinot Grigio (that's what I did). They are usually the cheapest on the menu too. You can then try a Sauvignon Blanc. They are pretty sweet sometimes. Both are served cold, which is good. You should know that SIP is supposed to and not wait that is super sweet. If you want SUPER sweet then try a desert wine, but those are not really drink wine with food.
